About us

Hello, I’m Dr Sophia Deboick, a study skills tutor and mentor based in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. I founded The Degree Doctor in 2012 to offer dedicated specialist study skills and mentoring support to higher education students in receipt of Disabled Students’ Allowance. I have experience of the higher education sector as a tutor and researcher, including at Russell Group universities, and I worked in study skills support at one of the largest HE-providing further education institutions in the country before setting up The Degree Doctor.

With an expert understanding of the HE academic environment, I provide a service that is tailored specifically to the needs of both undergraduate and postgraduate degree students. I work exclusively with adults and my approach to study skills and mentoring support is to work collaboratively with students as equals, providing a friendly and approachable service.

I hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Studies in Education (PGCPSE (Open)), am AMBDA FE/ HE (Associate Membership of the British Dyslexia Association, Further Education/ Higher Education) qualified, and have trained in autism with the National Association of Disability Practitioners (NADP) and the National Autistic Society (NAS). I am registered as a DSA non-medical help (NMH) provider of Specialist One-to-One Study Skills and Strategy Support (SpLD, ASC) and Specialist Mentor Support (ASC), and have membership of ADSHE’s Quality Assurance scheme (registration number ADSHEQA106).

I look forward to working with you to achieve your academic goals!
