We work in collaboration with higher education institutions and tutors, providing a flexible, reliable service. We are very happy to hear from universities and HE-providing colleges who require a professional external provider of study skills support for students with a specific learning difficulty (SpLD – for example dyslexia or ADHD) or autism diagnosis, or mentoring support for students with a diagnosis of autism or ADHD/ ADD. We can also advise individual tutors who have students in need of additional support or advice on Disabled Students’ Allowance.
What are the benefits of DSA-funded support for HEIs?
The 2007 National Audit Office report Staying the course: The retention of students in higher education found that students in receipt of Disabled Students’ Allowance are much more likely to continue with their course than students declaring a disability who do not receive it and, indeed, students without any disability.
DSA-funded support increases retention rates, benefiting both HEIs and students. In addition to the kind of support we provide, DSA can fund mentoring support and specialist IT equipment. These can make a vital difference to students’ success, giving them the support they need to stay on-track through to the end of their course.
How can The Degree Doctor help your HEI?
We can play a key role in securing the positive outcomes associated with DSA funding. We offer services that often can’t be provided in-house, including supporting students out-of-hours or in their own homes and giving extensive one-to-one assistance with the DSA application process. DBS-checked, fully insured, and holding the ‘gold standard’ qualifications for professionals working in SpLD support at university level, we hold Quality Assured Membership of the Association of Dyslexia Specialists in Higher Education (ADSHE) and pride ourselves on our HE expertise.
We are always available to meet with HEI staff. Please contact us to arrange a time that’s convenient for you to discuss your requirements further and find out more about how we can support your students towards success.
